The Suranov House

In the very center of Kolomna, on Posadskaya Street, there is a house that remembers the end of the XVIII century. Built in 1799, it survived a change of owners, and in 1861 became the ancestral home of the Suranov family, one of the most important merchant dynasties in the city. Soap was brewed here, candles were poured, porcelain was painted, paintings were appreciated, apple souffle was cooked and God was prayed for. Today, the house has undergone a major restoration and is reopening its doors to travelers who are ready to move to Kolomna a century and a half ago.

The Suranov House is the first living history house in Russia, which offers a complete immersion into the life and everyday life of Kolomenskoye Posad at the end of the 19th century. Interiors, furnishings, personal belongings — everything here tells about the character and habits of the owners. No wonder they say that a house is a mirror of the soul of its inhabitants.

The project has already received high recognition: The Suranov House became the winner of the first D. S. Likhachev National Prize in the field of museum business.

And in 2024, a film about the House was released "The Suranov House. Kolomna life. Not a game", which can be viewed on Kinopoisk.

"Untimely visit" — free acquaintance with the estate

This format is for those who like to explore on their own. Like guests from the future, you travel to the end of the 19th century and walk like shadows through the living rooms from which the owners have just left for a short time. No one leads you by the hand — you get to know the spaces of the house yourself, look at the details, feel the atmosphere. Finally, tea from a samovar and a traditional gingerbread with almonds.

Lunch at the Suranovs' House — immersion with heroes

Here you are no longer a spectator, but a participant in everyday life at the end of the 19th century. You will be greeted by one of the inhabitants of the house — a governess, a maid, an orderly or a cook. Together with them, you will plunge into the cycle of ordinary affairs, walk through all the rooms and learn about merchant life and family traditions. And then lunch at an antique table. The treats are cooked in the oven according to authentic recipes from the Suranov family cookbook from 1890.

Literary dinner "We were both..."

What do Anna Akhmatova and Boris Pilnyak have in common? Why did their paths cross in space but diverge in time? And how was a cycle of poetry born in Kolomna, which arose from... not meeting? This is a theatrical lunch tour, where letters, poems and memories come to life at a set table. A gramophone with music from the beginning of the 20th century is playing, Akhmatova's favorite dishes and Pilnyak's recipes are on the table. This is a secular literary salon where they argue about destinies, read poetry and raise toasts — both for meeting and for not meeting.

The Suranov House is not a museum in the usual sense, but a carefully preserved slice of life, where you can temporarily become part of a merchant family, hear stories "firsthand" and taste dishes that were prepared more than a hundred years ago. Come here — the authentic, unplayed life of Kolomna awaits you here.
